It started off innocently enough. It was Memorial Day weekend and my girlfriend's parents were out of town, and our friend, Liz was going to hang out with us. Her boyfriend was out of town as well. Well, to be more accurate, he was out of the country. He was spending a semester abroad in Ireland, and, from what Liz heard, he was studying more than just the culture.

It was one of the hottest summers on record and for the small town in central Illinois, that meant July temperatures in the mid to upper nineties was the norm. There were only two escapes from the heat; the air conditioned indoors or a pool and cool drinks. One evening, after a local band had provided some musical entertainment in the parking lot of a local bar and hotel, a group of friends were discussing what to do next. Here’s another story from the diary, I’m amazed when I read through things at some of the things I’ve done. I’ve forgotten about some and well others you just can’t forget. I hadn't intended to work late that night... I knew you had made plans to go out with a friend of yours. When I arrived home, you were already sitting in the living room, dressed and ready to go. You just smiled at me with a shake of your head. "Kind of figured you'd end up being late. Go take a shower, I'll get something out for you, ok?," You said with a sigh, getting off the couch, though you were still working on your tie. You always had trouble with those...

Warm air. Wonderful stuff. We stepped of the aeroplane and felt it wash around us as we unwrapped ourselves from our winter coats. A bit too much white skin on show, but we would change that over the next couple of weeks, lying out in the sun, swimming, eating, drinking, living the tropical idyll.

I imagine a fantasy. A fantasy that we have spoken briefly to eachother about. One I have not yet experienced. It involves you, me, and a female friend. A female friend who is so far is faceless and nameless…
We have just finished dinner and have begun talking. A movie is in the background, but no one is watching, or cares.
