It was the day after our annual New Year's party, which was an absolute blast. Someday I will write a story about our evening, but this story relates to something that happened to me in the past. A group of 10 people stayed overnight after the party. In the morning, Billy and I made breakfast for everyone, nothing too fancy, scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, and lot of coffee. It was dark. It was also very stuffy. I've been through so much in who knows how much time and have changed in many ways. I hardly have any meaningful memories of my life before everything began.
I last remember my age as 19. I've not been outside too often, or even seen a watch, or anything else to give me some sense of time. I was swept up, bundled up, dragged off into the abyss... - Or so it felt! I had no family and no friends when I moved to a new town in the hopes of starting a new life.

I was always amazed at how someone from my past unfailingly seemed to turn up on opening nights of exhibitions. It didn't seem to matter which city I was in, some old school friend, long lost family member or an acquaintance from the photography fraternity seemed to find the ads for my openings in the small print and turn up to say hi.

It was her best friend, Jen.

David was one of the regulars at my favorite bar. He was one of many people I saw there on a fairly regular basis; we'd occasionally chat about sports or movies or our favorite types of booze. He was a couple years older than me (I was 26 at the time) and, even though I'd never had any sort of sexual or romantic encounters with another guy before, I couldn't help but notice that he was attractive.

She was beautiful. Eighteen years old and stunning with her petite little body and long brown hair, just like her mother. When she was six years old, her mom had taken off with a friend of hers (whom I was always right not to trust) and she never looked back. She never called or asked about our daughter. She was just gone. It broke my heart but I got to keep Lacy.
