Paul could not believe what he was hearing. After 4 years of service, he had believed himself to be an asset to the company. His boss, Richard, now sitting there, spewing the company line, had become a good pal. Yet, here it was.

When I first met Mary I did not give her much thought. We were introduced just as I started my new job. I'd just been hired as the network administrator for a midsized business and her office was just across the hall from mine. She was the firms' accountant.
I could be cruel and say she looked the part, but there wasn't that much there. Mary stood 5' 5"and looked to be in her early 30's.

It's amazing how sharp your senses get when death is in the vicinity.
Christine Reynolds could hear clearly the sounds of far-off coyotes and the whistle of a train from many miles away. She could smell the smoke from the pistol she still held in her hand, and the blood of the man lying on the ground in front of her. The echo of the gunshots still reverberated in her ears as she stared numbly at his dead body. A light desert breeze caressed her naked body as she stood in the moonlit darkness trying to make sense of what had just happened.

"I told you I wanted the bacon well-done," the woman said loud enough for most of the café to hear.
Jason looked down at the two halves of the BLT sandwich laid open for the young man to see the meat in question.
"We didn't think you wanted it burnt," Jason said.
"I wanted it the way I ordered it," the woman stated firmly. "Well-done. Not soft. Not burnt. Well-done."

She walked into his office knowing what this meeting was about. Earlier that day, Sarah had received an email from one of her professors wanting to discuss an important topic. While the email didn't specify what the topic was, Sarah knew her last paper was below standards. She had just started dating someone and, while she knew she shouldn't, Sarah was putting less effort into her school work and more into her new relationship.

I'm middle-aged, a former Naval Officer and currently a CPA. I have my own business with no other employees. I was married once, but she had a boyfriend while I was at sea. I kicked her out and have been alone since.
I'm not complaining because I have many lady friends if you know what I mean. I own my own home in a nice residential neighborhood and the people there know I'm single. On one side of my house is a nice spinster lady with lots of animals.

Nadia scowled at the computer screen in front of her.
As a writer at a sight for erotic stories, she was constantly trying to better herself and to make sure that she wrote stories that people enjoyed. Negative feedback didn't bother her when there was a reason behind it, even if the person didn't put their name down. What did bother her were anonymous comments that were mean, derogatory and often downright cruel... and several of them were obviously written by the same person.

She got into the hotel elevator on the 7th floor, wearing nothing a swimsuit with a towel around her waist, at the same time I got out, and I knew I had to follow her.
There was no doubt it was the same woman I'd noticed that morning as I'd left for the conference, leaving room 713 just after I'd walked out of 717. She'd had on a perfectly smooth pencil skirt over black hose or stockings, a matching jacket, three-inch heels, and a white blouse--the kind of business attire that drives me to distraction every single time.

I was busy with my usual Monday morning office routine, sipping coffee, browsing a large stack of phone messages and sorting through my email. Five messages were from Cal Ryder, sleazebag journalist for the local news. What the hell could he want that's so important, I thought. As the mayor of a large midwest city, I was used to calls from the local paper, but it wasn't often that I would get a call from Cal.
