It was a pretty typical Tuesday afternoon. I sat in my office with the door closed and surfed on the internet. It had gotten all my work done that morning, and now I had several hours of boredom to look forward to.
The biggest problem with this was that when I had nothing to do, nothing in particular to occupy my mind, I began to think about my assistant.

There’s the briefing on the smart growth legislation they’re interested in,” Cathy informed me as I slowly flipped through the contents of my inbox, which always seemed overwhelmingly full on each of my visits back to my district.
“I’m assuming they’re against it,” I sarcastically replied.

The landing was rough. There's no delicate way to put it - I was scared shitless. I looked over at my associate, Lyssa, in the seat next to me and noticed that she, too, was trying to put on a brave face. I tried to give a brave smile. but I knew she wasn't buying it.
Thunder and lightning crashed outside the window of the plane, the pitch-black skies turning the morning into night.

"Evan, Mr. Franklin would like to see you if you're available."
"I'm on my way, Francine." Evan hung up the phone, grabbed his notebook and ran up the back stairs to Francine's door. As he caught his breath he made sure his shirt was tucked in and his tie was straight and brushing his hair back with his left hand opened the door and went in.
