I was having a really bad day. I was PMSing and being a total brat, so it's was no surprise when Ms. Slater, the girl's coach, told me to run a few extra laps after practice. I wasn't the only one, lucky for me. (Really lucky, as it turned out!)
The other girl was Julia Rodriguez - a brown skinned girl I only knew from soccer. She didn't seem too bummed at having to do the extra laps, and we talked as we ran together.

Imagine a mental hospital - not the realistic environment, more like what you see in movies like "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest." There was a large room where the inmates could gather. The nurse's station was next to it. There was a wire fence over the window, so the nurse was protected, but could see and hear what went on. Next to her station was a wire gate, locked.

As the school year progressed Dana felt happier than she had in a long time. She knew that a large part of this was her very satisfying affair with Jack. There isn't a time of year I love more than summer. Warm weather, plenty of sun, time at the shore, flowers in my garden, kids outside. I especially relish the last one. The kids are out of school, but both of them are old enough now that they spent most of their time over friend's houses. This allows me to spend less time cleaning up after the messes they always seem to create, and more out in the warmth of the sun.
