Jackie arrived at her house and retired to her bedroom. She threw her keys on the night stand before taking a few deep breaths. She wondered how she should spend the rest of her evening and night. She knew her husband was already asleep in his bedroom, passed out drunk. She was so bored with her marriage of six years that there was nothing left but empty feelings for her husband. She wished he would just leave and divorce her. All he cared about was getting drunk, day after day. It seemed as if he had alcohol for blood.

I had just moved into the apartment by myself, a long story but this was for the first time for a long time. To start with the freedom seemed great and I enjoyed not having any body under my feet or messing up my living space. After a few months my feeling on this started to change. I began to realise how good it was to have someone around to talk with, gossip and generally weigh up the days news, on the other hand I really didn't want to get back into some heavy relationship.

For a couple of years now I have worked outdoors picking flowers in a nursery. At the time it was a suitable job cause I wanted to spend more time out doors and be close to the guy I'd been dating for 2 years.
Then he decided to call it quits, said he needed a change and he was gone. I was shattered at first but then I started thinking I needed something new and exciting in my life. I am only 24 years old. Why not starting by look for a new job?

Except for the red glow from the digital alarm clock, which read 4:53, the room was still dark. My eyes had adjusted to the lack of light but I could still barely make out the features of Hokuto's sleeping face. I propped myself up on an elbow and leaned close. It had been almost four months since the last time I'd seen him but it had seemed much longer. I'd expected him to look older, but all the lines and creases my eyes had traced and memorized in the past two years were the same.

Chapter One
"Damn him. He wasn't supposed to be the first one to go. He promised me. He's really screwed it up, he has."
Sadie, jarred by the tone of Jan's voice, sat up on her haunches and nosed her head into her new mistress's hand. Without even realizing she'd done it, Jan stroked Sadie's head and behind an ear. Reassured, Sadie gave an "I wasn't really worried" yawn and settled back on the ground beside the folding chair Jan was sitting on.

I wiped the counter clean for the fourth time; making sure to eliminate any crumbs or marks that might have evaded my first three passes. I sighed and looked at the clock - again. Only two minutes had gone by since my last glance. I looked at my watch and, of course, it said the same thing as the kitchen clock. Quarter of one. Aurelie would be arriving in fifteen minutes, and she was never late.

I have just finished two long days of wheeling and dealing in Wilmington, Delaware.
Before driving home to Philly, I decide to unwind, enjoy a little repast as I wait for the rush hour traffic on 95 to ease. So at 5:45 I enter the Green Room of the Hotel du Pont and am seated in the plush dinning room at a table for two quickly transpose to a table for one.

“Bloody thing. Rotten sodding rust bucket.” I turned the starter key one more time and got a dying whimper, then silence.
I could have cried. I knew it would cost me money I could ill afford to get the thing fixed. Like most people in our street I owned a clapped out old car simply because I and they couldn’t afford to get anything better.

I'm in my late fifties. Pretty good-looking, I'm told and still in pretty good shape, thank you very much. I live in Bridgehampton, New York, right in the center of the 'Fabulous Hamptons' resort area. I live here year 'round and unlike the eclectic billionaires that comprise my neighborhood, I don't go to the fancy parties and fundraisers, horse shows or designer shops. Don't get me wrong, I love the style and artistic nature of the place, bumping into the super-famous on the street and dining on the best food.

The call came in that some computer work was needed for the company's most expensive client. The Jordans were the wealthiest family in the state and had been for generations. They were known as "old money", the family wealth coming from long years of shrewd business. They were also somewhat reclusive; the only one ever actually seen was Mr. Jordan when he went to and from the city on business and the wife almost never seen. From those that worked for them, the Jordans were said to be aloof and haughty, the wife bossy and controlling.
