I’ve developed a real familiarity which Charlie. He was in my class years ago. We stayed friendly. He’s been cutting my lawn for 7 or 8 years now and its no big deal for him to just pop in the house and use the bathroom or raid the fridge for a soda when he’s done doing the lawn. My name is – well, what difference does it make what my name is? I mean, you don't care about me. You're probably more interested in my little adventure and, if that's the case, you're one sick son of a bitch. But, okay, here goes.
Oh, hell, I don't care if you want to know or not. I'm going to give you a little background about me anyway. If you don't like, go screw yourself.

Matilda Swanson stepped off the bus into the Colorado January sun. She clutched a heavy coat purchased in St. Louis during an overnight layover. The Florida native gritted chattering teeth and cursed the cold. A breathtaking view spread out before her. Teaching high school art classes may have been his calling, but he loved being a medic in the Army Reserves almost as much.

Patterson and I had just ordered a pizza when his phone rang. He glanced at the Caller ID window and looked up as the waitress brought us a pitcher of beer.
"Sorry, dude," he said. "I need to take this one. It's Mom."
He looked away and lowered his voice as he turned his attention to the call. I tried to pretend I was suddenly interested in the clever "Go Tigers!" declarations hanging on the walls of Sal's Pizza.

The halls vibrated with the music that flowed through them. Organ music swelled through the huge, drafty church and out the open doors. Passing people stopped and listened to the familiar tunes and the harmonic voices of the worshippers as they sang a 'thank you' to God for the birth of his son. "Grace arrived late last night. Poor thing was tired after the red eye flight from Toronto," Mia said taking a seat at the breakfast table.
At those words, James dropped the muffin he was about to eat into his coffee mug. The resulting splash sprinkled not only on the pale blue damask table cloth, but his shirt as well. Trying to cover up his flub, he responded to his sister's comment.

I couldn't believe my luck – all my friends were going down to the beach, and I had to help my parents with a BBQ they were throwing.
I had tried all the excuses I could think of but they weren't buying it.
'I've paid for you to study at University for 2 years Dan' my father said, 'it's the least you can do.'
So I eventually gave in and agreed to help with the cooking and drinks.

Brad was an only child. He was six years old when his mom, Karoline, died in an accident. He had fond memories of his mom, especially of the one summer he spent in Northern California at her family's beach-front home. Often, he looked at a photo taken on a beach that showed him being hugged by his mother and a woman with long neck and legs. The woman called him, Berde, a Danish name. After his father remarried, he did not have a good relationship with his step mother, Brigitte. He saw her as an immature and selfish woman.

Donna Gant sat reading a magazine on the couch in the family room of her center hall colonial. It was around one o'clock on an August afternoon, and the late-summer heat and humidity was swelling outside. Donna was enjoying her last "free" days before the new school year began, and she would have to get back to work. Donna was a science teacher at the local high school where here sons, Ryan and Mitchell, attended. She and her husband, Tom, had moved to the town some 12 years ago, when Ryan was just five and Mitchell was only two.
