My heart started to pick up speed as the bus got closer and closer to Brawly. The road was framed with beautiful fields of green and yellow. Tractors and trailers were moving around carrying farm supplies and farm workers to their designated destinations. Many fields were shimmering under the bright afternoon sun, indicating the presence of water as the irrigation canals emptied into them. Rows of white birds were spread all over those fields, searching for food and maybe even socializing at the local watering holes.

All the characters in this story can vote in Federal elections I'd not been home in over four years. * As my folks had divorced while I was in my senior year of college, I'd gone straight to work at a hedge fund in Connecticut. I guess I should start with a little history. I was born in the late 60's. My dad was a United States Marine. I had a fairly average childhood, went to college, and joined the corps as soon as I graduated. Shortly after I joined the corps dad and mom came to visit. They had some news. Mom was pregnant. Soon after she had my twin sisters Rose and Lily. Being so much older and being on active duty I didn't get to spend much time with my sisters as they grew. During the next few days Rich and I worked at the landscaping company together, but he was distant. We hardly talked and when we did, even at home, it was in short, cordial sentences.
