I can barely contain my excitement. Tonight's the night I've been waiting for. Our tenth anniversary and the promise that Greta made to me on our wedding night.
I should probably give you a little back story to explain the whole situation. See, I was Greta's first, the night we got engaged. I asked and presented her the ring. She said yes and put it on.

I was trying to be careful as I carried the brimming pitcher of dark brown beer to the table in the corner. Jack had managed to arrive with only three-quarters of one after his trip to the bar. I was limiting my intake, and so was a bit steadier, but I was also trying to stay out from in front of the projector. The pitcher finally sat safely on the table. Helen carelessly sloshed the nutty brew into her pilsner and took a long draught.

The heel of my boot clacked against the porcelain tiles of the outdoor bar as I stepped off of the small stage. I had just butchered a karaoke version of Friends in Low Places and was on my way back to my beer. My friends jeered as they signed up for their turn to do the same to some other unsuspecting classic of a tune. We were lit and having a blast. It was the kind of fun that attracted attention and made others want to join in.

Olivia and I had not dated much. And most of that was more about sex, not dating.
Our first date was dinner, then back to her place for drinks and, quickly, bed. It was not that I was so great at seducing her. She just seemed as interested in sex as I wanted her to be in my daydreams. If you're thinking that a relationship like that couldn't last, well... well, you're right. But on to the story.

Three PM at the coffee shop last week, I saw someone I had not seen for nine years. Monet was a woman I had hired years ago to work in the shop I ran at the time. I was not the owner, but managed a gift shop on Sutter Street at Stockton in San Francisco. She and I ran the shop nights and weekends, and she was always nice to be around. At the time, we were both in our twenties, and things were good. No cares, lots of free time, and we both got to sleep late every morning.

The next morning after our encounter with my Mum, I rang her from the office. "Oh hallo Diana dear." She said when she heard my voice.
"Hi Mum." I said, "I'm ringing from the office." I let that information sink in so that she would know that I'd have to be careful what I said to her. "I'm ringing to see how you are this morning."
"I'm fine dear." She said, "In fact I'm more than fine I'm ecstatic! I still can't believe what you two did to me yesterday! You are a pair of naughty buggers!"

Fridays at my office weren’t always easy, but this one was. We had just settled one of our biggest cases, a suit brought by a man who lost an arm as a result of another driver who had been undeniably drunk and run a stoplight.
The insurance company refused to pay any more than the policy limit, which was simply unfathomable. Our client was a stone mason, and a well-respected one.

The heavy cement building went from a speck on the horizon to a great looming hungry monster in seconds. Kelsey’s eyes took in the structure. The walls were cold and unwelcoming; the electric fence was topped with angry looking razor wire. The gray sky above matched the setting well. Kelsey saw the blood on her hands through the blur of tears. She had been convicted fairly by a jury. This would be her home for the next twenty-five years.

Today was the beginning of another slow week at the office. I worked as Secretary to the Managing Director for small Advertising Agency here in Barbados. My boss, Mr. David, had left for vacation last week, a two-month vacation. I generally loved when he was absent, for I had little or no work to do as I was his Personal Secretary and not the Company Secretary. But that was only when he was absent for a day or two, not two months.

Ah yes, she's here again - the girl. I've been watching her for several weeks now. She and her friends hang out at the pool where I live. Several of them must be sub-letting for the summer because there's no way a college student could afford to live here on a regular basis. Then again, who knows? Parents give their kids everything these days.
