Ted was in a rush to get back to the apartment and get out of there before Greg got home. He should have taken his time. Greg was there waiting for him.
"Trying to get out of the bet, Ted?" Greg taunted.
"Of course not," Ted lied.
The bet was one of those stupid things the two of them (along with several of their friends) were always setting up. Although the bets were for the most part somewhat stupid, the pay-offs were always seriously moronic.

I am a retired man in my 60's, and I live in a suburban neighborhood of a small west-coast city. I live with my best friend Ralph. No, not what you think.
Ralph is my dog. He is a lab mix, about 60 pounds, and a real rascal.
I take Ralph on a walk twice a day to the Neighborhood Park, where dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and well behaved. The park is full of people with their kids, and some other people with dogs.

I tossed the trashy romance novel I'd bought onto the coffee table. Here I was, all alone, my son out with his father in California for the summer and what was my plan for Saturday night? To sit, all alone, and read a book.
I sighed, got off the sofa and wandered down the hall to the bathroom. I turned on the light and looked at myself in the mirror. I was only 42 years old and I didn't have some of the wrinkles the girls I worked with had at my age.

"You may enter the room now, sir."
A pause.
"Sir...Daniel?"
I was off in my own little world, oblivious of the kind voice speaking to me.
"I'm sorry," I offered, snapping back into the current reality. My eyes focused on the receptionist, a warm, middle-aged woman, smiling understandably at me.

Clare really enjoyed babysitting for the Martins. A typical weekday evening would involve her just sitting at home on the sofa watching TV, but here she could do exactly that and get paid for it at the same time. Wonderful. The Martins had a great TV system as well, with so many channels she could spend ages channel hopping without visiting the same channel twice, and more DVDs than she ever imagined one family would own.

Isaiah McDermott shifted his pack to ease the pressure on his shoulders. He rested a bit as he checked his bearings. It appeared as if he was on course toward his destination. According to his map there should be a farm house near by. He had to avoid it at all cost. The "Aggressors" would be watching it. It was on a natural choke point where the roads crossed because of the terrain. The creek and the river in conjunction with the hills made this the easiest way to get to the main highway.

It's peaceful up here in my school library. I like the big windows. I like the big tree outside the windows, here on the second floor, where I kinda feel like I'm in the tree. I'm trying to decide what kind of tree it is, and I think it may be a sycamore. That's the kind with the smooth patchy bark, right? I think so.

Kids! Don't try this at home! Unprotected sex leads to many bad things. A fantasy, based on a lovely lady who is not my photography student, nor any sort of partner, sexual or otherwise.
Darkrooms are sexy places. Ever since my friend Peter used to feel up girls in the high school yearbook darkroom – with full compliance and complicity – I have known darkrooms to be wonderful places.

Why did I wait so long to clean the house? Nikki could be arriving at any time. At least the dirty clothes were out of the dryer, folded, hangered, and out of the way. When you work full-time, with a part-time job, there never seems to be enough time to get caught up on the stuff that a woman will immediately notice. Fortunately, Nikki understands and forgives my controlled messiness. She never fails to mention that I am too old to properly keep a house and should hire a maid. But, I would have to seriously clean before allowing a stranger to see my clutter.

I'm working the night shift, which is basically sitting at my desk doing absolutely nothing until 10 PM. Nothing but paperwork, paperwork, a call in between, more paperwork. Two breaks, one lunch. I have my lunch at 6:30. My favorite time of the work day. I'm 24 and so far life is completely nothing but boring events, and my job (which I have been working at since I was 20, and only 1 promotion). Anyways, lunch was the most exciting part of the day on this specific day, here in San Diego.
