Friday, October 30. 9:30ish.
I say "9:30ish", but really I knew it was 9:23 pm, just like it was the last time I pushed back the gauntlet on my glove to check my watch. The TV above the bar said 9:27. God – David was such a flake.

I glanced around cautiously as I made my way up the narrow cobblestone path towards the imposing residence before me. Through the darkness of the night I could see the front door ajar, as a shaft of light spilled out over the front step accompanied by the unmistakable sounds of music and laughter coming from within. I began to wonder if I was making a mistake, but quickly dismissed the notion, silently scolding myself for such unfounded doubt.

Just like always I can hear the nearest neighbour pour water into something before he shuts the water off. The soft padding of feet floating above my head. I follow the footsteps, wandering beneath him. It's fascinating, how I can hear every move he makes. I know when he goes to work, when he comes home, when he sleeps and when he wakes.

When you're in your twenties and in college, the field of eligible women seems endless. If you want short flings, no sweat. If you want long term, easy to find. Once you graduate and go out in the world, well, all that changes. Hopefully by that time you found your true love and married her. Which is what I did, marrying my high school and college sweetheart before leaving college. If only that meant long term happiness.
