Her parents called me cold. Not to my face of course, I heard them in one of those moments I wasn't supposed to. In a not so unguarded moment her mother screamed at me that I was a monster for taking there daughter away from them, her husband managed to calm her and move her away from me before apologizing. His eyes gave him away, he agreed all to well with his wife's opinion of me. But to do this now and on the day of Angie's funeral was simply not acceptable.

Donna Smithers stood in her largest client's office, her stomach queasy at the thought of losing the two million dollar contract. She knew that the client had been shopping around for a better deal. She knew that without it her business might very well go under. She also didn't trust the client very much at all. She was willing to drop the cost to the client by two hundred thousand dollars which would just barely cover her costs with a bare minimum of profit. She knew that she might not have a choice in the matter and that made her sick to her stomach.

It was a hot night in Rochester but I shivered all the same. There were no cars in the driveway on a sprawling cream colored new-money manse the bordered the Clearey Woods, so I pulled up the parking brake and on battered gray Camry. The thick pine and birch that skirted the side and back of the property kept drawing my eye. If I wasn't very careful, I could die tonight. But if I'd refused, I'd be dead for certain.
