Three PM at the coffee shop last week, I saw someone I had not seen for nine years. Monet was a woman I had hired years ago to work in the shop I ran at the time. I was not the owner, but managed a gift shop on Sutter Street at Stockton in San Francisco. She and I ran the shop nights and weekends, and she was always nice to be around. At the time, we were both in our twenties, and things were good.

Though he was twenty six years old Charlie still lived with his divorced mother; in her basement in fact, because he couldn't afford a place of his own. Charlie wanted to move out and get an apartment or perhaps rent a townhouse, but with his meager salary his prospects were not good.

My girlfriend is a cyclist and on the last Friday of each month she goes on a protest ride in the city. It's supposed to encourage people to stop driving to work and ride bikes instead but all it does is make people angry. She doesn't mind and enjoys shouting back at people who tell her to get off the road and out of their way.

It was almost six p.m. shift change at the small local bar that has been my hangout for many years. I seem to only get there on Sunday evenings now. I shoot pool with friends, look at the strippers and stock up on fantasies for the coming week. One lovely, married dancer named Britney was responsible for a large share of them. She always worked Sunday evenings. Her life has been in turmoil for most of the last year. Every few times I see her I help her relax and get her off with my hands in the private corner.

I cracked my eyes and was rewarded with a faceful of harsh morning light streaming through my girlfriend's window. It must have been about 8, 8:30. Way too early to be conscious on a Sunday morning, particularly given the way we had tied one on the night before.
I looked over at Erin. She was laying on her side, facing away from me, still sleeping.

Melissa kicked off her sandals as she walked into her best friend's apartment. Her very drunk best friend was close behind.
"I just need a little nap," Amber slurred, shuffling toward the bedroom she shared with her boyfriend Sam. He was spread out on the couch in their living room, reading a magazine.

"What's this?!" Harlan said to himself. "Lorraine's the last person I expected to run into tonight. She's married! At least, she was the last time we talked. And, who's that cute, little redhead sitting next to her?"
Harlan had never cruised the city's cougar dens to pick up women. Life was complicated enough with his job and the girls he was already dating.

As we were driving down the highway I heard a moan and wondering what Beth was up to now I looked over just in time to watch her unbutton the last button on her blouse.
Beth had her eyes closed and she was slowly moving her finger back and forth on her tummy by the bottom of her slightly open blouse.

Nanci, I know I wasn't supposed to tell you this.
There is this sachet I keep with me, which will be part of the day when I'll finally meet you.
I saw it being used in a movie and I plan to introduce it on the first day you'll give yourself to me.
I will hide it, away from you prying eyes... on that particular day, I'll make sure we have all the time in the world, the phones will be off, the hotel room door locked, with that "Do not disturb" sign by the handle... alone, just you and me.

"This little piggy went to market."
"What are you doing?"
Cosmo did not reply. Instead, he proceeded on to her second toe, taking it between his thumb and index finger, wiggling it back and forth. "This little piggy stayed home."
"You are so weird!"
"This little piggy had roast beef." He changed his inflexion to a low, pouting tone and continued, "and this little piggy, he had none."
