"It's time, Annie," I told her. "We can't wait a second longer, because this baby won't."
"But Dom," she answered. "The hospital is so far away, if the contractions slow down again, we'll be up there for nothing, and that snowstorm is coming. We could be stuck up there."
"Yes!" I snapped. "This is a nasty storm, suppose we stay put, it hits, and then the baby comes. We'll be stuck here, 80 miles from help. It's time!"

Donna was in her element. It was her son Pete's 18th Birthday, the house was full of his friends who were all about to embark on an evenings drinking in town -- she had made them all food and shown off her cooking and hosting skills. Things had all gone well and they all seemed happy.
Donna loved acting like a proper mother -- it was a role she relished. It was all she had done for years -- look after her three children, who were now all growing up.

The phone rang as Keith just finished telling me he loved me. It was Susie.
"Hi, Nancy," said Susie. "How's it going?"
"Fine," I replied smiling at Keith while pointing to a picture of Susie and me in a framed picture.
"Are you dating anyone, Nancy? Bill has this great friend I'd like to set you up with," stated Susie.
"Oh, that's so nice of you, Susie," I replied imagining what kind of bore her set-up would be. "But, I'm really busy at work and traveling a lot which wouldn't be fair to Bill's friend right now. Maybe another time."
